Community Programs: Overview

Overview

Lead Screening

By establishing and maintaining strong relationships with hospitals, physicians and clinics within each community it serves, South Bend Medical Foundation takes the lead in providing effective laboratory diagnostic testing.

The Foundation supports a variety of public health screenings, including those for lead, sickle cell anemia, cardiac disease and prostate cancer. It helps meet the health care needs of the underinsured and uninsured, primarily by offering free or discounted testing services to a number of neighborhood clinics. It participates in local health exhibits and wellness fairs sponsored by schools, churches and social-service agencies. It is a sponsor of WNDU-TV's "The More You Know" public service campaign. Additionally, the Foundation is active in education, helping to train students pursuing health care careers and providing continuing education as well as information resources to medical professionals. It also operates the Central Blood Bank in St. Joseph County.
