My story isn't a local story. However, it does reach out to donors and possibly someone who is hesitant in donating. My father who lived in Ohio was diagnosed with cancer. When it came down to the last few days of my father's life, I was summoned to his bedside to say my last goodbye. The cancer took over much quicker than anyone expected. What was 3-5 weeks turned out to be just days before the cancer took over fully.

The drive from Indiana to Ohio is a six-hour drive. I went straight to the hospital where my Dad had been residing. I was warned that Dad was given 3-5 pints of blood every day for the last few days. This I came to know is what was keeping my father alive until his children and family arrived from far away destinations.

My point to the story is that because of many generous donors, we, his children, were given the chance to share some laughs, smiles, hugs, kisses and memories with my father. I would like to thank those who do make it a practice to donate. I encourage those who think about donating, but haven't, to do their part.

Donating blood is so very important. There is no substitute for blood!
