History of the Central Blood Bank

Blood Drive Coordination

Nearly 25% of the blood collected in St. Joseph County comes from volunteer donors at remote blood drives. Each month the Central Blood Bank conducts over 20 blood drives at corporations, churches, schools or community organizations. There is a greater need for blood drives during the summer and around holidays, when many regular donors take vacation, and high schools and colleges are closed. Blood has a limited shelf life, and must be replenished continuously to ensure that the needs of sick and injured patients are met. Blood drives are a convenient way for people to make a donation during work or school hours.

Coordinating and supporting a blood drive is a tremendous way to serve your community. The Central Blood Bank provides recruitment materials, equipment, and staff. We take responsibility for set up and clean up. A blood drive coordinator's responsibilities include room reservation and donor recruitment.

In order to meet the increasing demands for blood, the Central Blood Bank continuously looks for new remote blood drive sites.
